Hello.
My name is Mandy Kuhne and I am a listening and early learning resource author.
My work centres around my love and awareness of nature which was nurtured during my
upbringing on the family farm. I appreciate difference and find quirks of nature fascinating..
As a debut author, my first book ‘Noisy Nature’ was acknowledged by Speech Pathology
Australia with a national award in 2017.
The idea for ‘Noisy Nature’ came one wet season in Darwin when hearing three green tree
frogs listen then croak in turn to each other. I was spell bound as turn-taking is an early
pragmatic protocol when learning to listen and speak.
My work is unique because it reflects my depth of knowledge and understanding of the
power of listening. Listening underpins spoken language and spoken number acquisition.
‘Noisy Nature Number’ continues my nature and outback theme drawn from my
experiences. Just as a strong oral language base is the foundation for literacy, I believe a
strong oral maths base is the key to success in numeracy.
A spoken number vocabulary creates a knowing and gives confidence for later written maths.
I enjoy thinking creatively to produce innovative resources for children that develop enhanced listening and speaking.
These are the foundations and will put children on the path to being the best they can be.
